Today I will talk about some features of the Edge browser and why I think Microsoft Edge is better than Google Chrome in some aspects, if not in all aspects.
We all know that Chrome is a Google browser that is currently the most popular. Be it an Android phone or Windows operating system. Mac users usually use Safari browser but for some extensions and support, they also need to use Chrome.
At one time, all types of extension support were not available in Edge. But after 2020, Edge has been completely redesigned by Microsoft. Now all extensions that work for Chrome must work for Edge. Because Edge is now built on Google’s Chromium-based open-source project, which Chrome is built on.
So now you must think that it is made with the same source code, then why can Edge be better than Chrome?
Edge has some cool and new features. Which is why I think it’s a better option than Chrome. Today’s post is about that.
Feature 1: PRIVACY
Edge is very advanced when it comes to privacy. We know that Chrome monitors our search categories or preferences and suggests various things, products, and services. It’s definitely a good feature. When you see things like yours already prepared for you, you’ll definitely be happy.
But Microsoft Edge’s policy is different. They give you some built-in flexibility when it comes to security. You can reduce the tracker or monitoring level in a built-in way.
**For this you need to go to Privacy and Services in your Edge settings. There you will see an option called Tracking Protection.
**There are Basic, Balanced, and Strict modes. From here you select the mode as per your requirement.
**You can see which truckers have been blocked from Blocked Trucker.
**Also you can select the sites you don’t want the tracker to stop from Exception. Because many times selecting a strict mode causes problems to load much content of the website. If you add your required sites here, the tracker protection will be turned off for them.
Feature 2: Vertical Tabs & Sleeping Tabs
Edge’s best feature is its vertical tabs. If your monitor is wide then you can take the whole facility in a better way. When we turn on many tabs, their names are not visible or it is difficult to find which tab is there.
Then there is an option called vertical tab with which you can arrange the tabs vertically. Then it will be convenient to see the tabs and you can see the titles.
**If you don’t have this option, then enable the Show Virtual Tab Button option in Appearance from Settings and Customize Toolbar section from there.
**There is also an option called Sleeping Tabs which will make your inactive tabs sleep. That means they will not consume resources. Microsoft claims that this option will ensure better performance by reducing your memory RCPU Usage Upto 30%.
**You can manually set this to your liking.
**For this you need to enable the sleeping tab option in the Save Resources section by going to System Options in Edge Settings. Here you can set how long the tabs will auto slip. Again here you can specify which sites you don’t want to ever go to sleep.
Feature 3: Multitasking
We usually switch windows quickly by pressing Alt + Tab if we have many undos open. But you have to press Ctrl + Tab in the tab change field of the browser, which can be annoying at times because you have to do it one by one. But in Edge, if you press Alt and Tab, your tabs will also appear as windows. You can also customize it.
**For this you go to Windows settings and not Edge settings and go to Multitasking option.
**And from here you can make your own settings. By default Edge has the last 5 tabs and the rest of the windows. You can select Only Window if you don’t want the tab switching feature. It depends on your personal preference.
Feature 4: IMMERSIVE READER
If you are a regular blog reader then this will be very useful for you. If you go to sites and turn on the immersive reader option or press F9, it will remove all content except text and images. And you can then read easily with your desired text and background theme.
**Remember that this feature is not provided on all sites. You can use this feature on sites where you find the Immersive Reader logo.
Feature 5: Read Aloud
This is a very nice feature that I use regularly. If you don’t want to read the content of many sites, you can listen to the audio with this option. You can customize this audio to your desired speed and voice. I think it is most suitable in English for now. The rest of the languages are expected to be added very soon. [Sample given in video]
So these were my 5 favorite reasons. This does not mean that Chrome is not a good browser. Of course good. But as Windows’ built-in browser, we still think of it as the Internet Explorer of the dinosaur era. I don’t do anything other than download chrome with setup. But no Edge is now much more optimized and uses comparable RAM than Chrome.
However, it is true that syncing of Chrome, i.e. Chrome of the phone and Chrome of the PC, if logged in with the same account, recent search, history [History], bookmark [Bookmark] and many other things can be accessed on these two devices, which is a very commendable feature. In case of Edge, it syncs with a Microsoft account but it is not very useful as we use it very little.
At the end of the day the browser is a matter of your comfort and personal preference. I didn’t want to minimize any browser with the video. In terms of features, whoever wants to keep it more forward and use it, they use it.
